Subject: [gentoo-security] Gentoo + Oracle
Date: Mon, 31 Jul 2006 16:27:48 +0200	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <D109C8C97C15294495117745780657AE05751BCF@ftrdmel1.rd.francetelecom.fr> (raw)

I suspect that Oracle prefer to certify their apps against a binary
distribution as then it is easier to know that everyone is running the
same package versions, etc.

Perhaps there could be an ebuild created that specified the exact
versions of everything that Oracle specified.

Kernel version, GCC version, Glibc version, GCC flags - the whole
shebang.

That way, Oracle could be sure that emerging "oracle10base" would bring
a Gentoo system up (or down) to the levels that the app was certified
to.

Yes, I'd like to second this request. It's such a pain to have that one
oddball RedHat server when all the rest are Gentoo.
