Hi,
singular-4.0.0 still does not work. Remember last time we wanted to
change configure of omalloc to not check that the ar programm is
actually called 'ar'. This requires rebuilding the build system which
fails in many many different ways. I suspect that upstream uses a very
old version of autotools because some upgrade broke their scripts?
I remember that last time I asked them, they said that using autoreconf
ourselves is discouraged, we should use their pre-made configure. At
the moment I don't have the energy to continue. Maybe things have
changed upstream and they care about this now? If either of you wants
to try, it's there in the overlay and upstream moved to github now:
https://github.com/Singular
Cheers,
Thomas

Hi hasufell,
you seem to be interested in singular. There is a non-working
ebuid for 4.0.0 in the science overlay which you can do whatever
you want with. Singular has been very hard to bring into Gentoo
shape in the past, but maybe things are improving now. I'm aware
of the QA bugs you reported, but it seems like a mountain of
useless work. I'd rather treeclean singular than fix those.
Cheers,
Thomas

Hi,
We should note that singular 4.0.0 is basically a “kde 4.0.0” kind
of release. Anything we do with it will help but I am not sure you
can seriously use it at this stage.
There has always been tons of QA with singular, QA that we cannot hope
to fix downstream and of which upstream is aware but doesn’t do
anything about, unless it actually breaks stuff.
