Hi;

It looks like pointless-1.3.15.tar.gz was pulled off the official ftp
server some time ago. I'm not familiar enough with pointless to know
whether I should ask for somebody to supply me with a copy of the
distfile or if the ebuild in the overlay should be retracted.

// Cheers; Johan

Hi Johan,

I fixed it. For some reason they removed all versions >1.3.12. I
mirrored the .15 tarball on our servers so just sync and emerge. But be
careful, I don't know why upstream removed it.

If you ever have problems again, don't hesitate to ask here, in out irc
channel #gentoo-science on freenode, or the commiter to the overlay
directly.

Hullo again;

The 1.4.7 pointless distfile is off the Cambridge ftp. Instead, they've
released 1.4.8. The latter version builds just fine with the 1.4.7
ebuild, however it fails three of the tests--I don't know what's wrong yet.

OK, then I know.

While I'm at it... this particular ebuild looks "prefix-aware". Is
anybody using prefix portage with the science overlay? Will you accept
patches to that end?

Same to me, I have a prefixed science package git overlay. Currently
only nmr stuff, but I am also porting xray packages. Drop the patches to me.

Talking about this, prefix was officially approved with eapi3 (not the
original eapi3 now called eapi4) a few days ago. So feel free to push
all your prefix stuff to the official tree whenever you feel like it,
or to harass a dev to push it for you.

Denis.

Great! Any reference on that? The prefix list (or gentoo-alt, rather)
has been remarkably silent on the issue, and

// Cheers; Johan

I am currently porting all packages I am mainting to be eprefix ready. I
hope it will not take more the a couple of weeks until I am able to push
everything into the tree.

You can check the council meeting summary of last month where prefix
is approved pending some final actions [1], and this month's meeting
log (the summary should make it to the page any time now) for the
final approval of prefix and the new EAPI3 [2]. You can also emerge
=app-doc/pms-3 where EAPI3 and thus prefix is specified. It's a good
time to start using this and send your comments to the prefix team
about the available documentation.

Denis.

Is there some guide around on "Porting ebuilds from EAPI=2 to EAPI=3 for
people who don't pay any attention to anything on mailing lists"?

No there isn't. But for most ebuilds there is no big change to EAPI="2".
Only exception are ebuilds using the python.eclass [1]. There you likely
will have a lot of work and the chance is high that you hit a bug in the
eclass. So I would recommend contacting Arfrever in any case of
problems. He is really willing to help us.

app-doc/pms includes the EAPI cheat paper from fauli.
