Hello,
The emerge of lapack-reference does not consider gfortran
^[[31;01m*^[[0m None of the needed Fortran Compilers (g77 ifc) is
installed.
^[[31;01m*^[[0m To install one of these, choose one of the following
steps:
^[[31;01m*^[[0m [1] USE="fortran" emerge =sys-devel/gcc-3*
^[[31;01m*^[[0m [2] emerge dev-lang/ifc
!!! ERROR: sci-libs/lapack-reference-3.0-r1 failed.
Call stack:
ebuild.sh, line 1630: Called dyn_setup
ebuild.sh, line 702: Called qa_call 'pkg_setup'
ebuild.sh, line 38: Called pkg_setup
ebuild.sh, line 1304: Called fortran_pkg_setup
fortran.eclass, line 181: Called need_fortran 'g77' 'ifc'
fortran.eclass, line 109: Called die
!!! Install a Fortran Compiler !
!!! If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call
stack if relevant.
!!! A complete build log is located at
'/var/log/portage/sci-libs:lapack-reference-3.0-r1:20070320-144521.log'.
There is a bug
http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=146448
for the lapack-3.0 ebuild a bit old but none for the lapack-reference.
Anyway to circumvent this problem in the 2006.1 profile? I tried
creating a g77 symlink to gfortran but the loader calls for libg2c which
I don't have.
Thanks,
--
Valmor

You need to use a newer revision in the 3.0 series.
$ grep gfort /usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.*
/usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.0-r3.ebuild:FORTRAN="g77
gfortran ifc"
/usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.0-r4.ebuild:FORTRAN="g77
gfortran ifc"
/usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.1.0.ebuild:FORTRAN="g77
gfortran ifc"
You probably missed that because no stable version works with gfortran
and the only 3.0 versions that do were removed (obsolete, Markus? -- I
wanted to mark those stable).
Thanks,
Donnie

Hi Donnie,
I was planning on marking the 3.1 series stable and sorry
for removing these old versions under your feet. If 3.1.0
would be fine with you I'll file the stabilization bug
for it later today. It works fine for me and all tests
pass on my dev boxes.
cheers,
Markus

g77 is part of gcc-3 (gcc-3.4.6 is latest). You can have both gcc-3 and
gcc-4 installed at the same time and switch between them using
`gcc-config' as needed.

I only have 3.1.* ebuilds
->grep gfort /usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.*
/usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.1.0.ebuild:FOR
TRAN="g77 gfortran ifc"
/usr/portage/sci-libs/lapack-reference/lapack-reference-3.1.1.ebuild:FOR
TRAN="g77 gfortran ifc"
But in my portage tree the only available version is
* sci-libs/lapack-reference
Latest version available: 3.0-r1
Latest version installed: [ Not Installed ]
Size of files: 4,934 kB
Homepage: http://www.netlib.org/lapack/index.html
Description: FORTRAN reference implementation of LAPACK Linear
Algebra PACKage
License: lapack
Does this mean I have to emerge a masked package?

Just an unstable one.
echo "sci-libs/blas-atlas ~x86" >>/etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "sci-libs/lapack-atlas ~x86" >>/etc/portage/package.keywords
echo "sci-libs/lapack-reference ~x86" >>/etc/portage/package.keywords
(If your Xeons are 64-bit and you compile 64-bit system, you should
probably use ~amd64 instead of ~x86.)
With best regards

That is what I did (just lapack-reference) and it did emerge.
Thanks,

Fine by me -- we just need something stable that works with gcc4.
