Never mind. The penny finally dropped.
You don't have a file:
/var/tmp/portage/sci-
mathematics/sage-4.3.4/image/opt/sage/data//extcode/gap/sage.g
because sage/data//extcode/gap/sage.g is shipped in sage-extcode.
So it is not there. Why it works for most of us and not for you is weird.
I am not about to emerge --debug to find out in all the gory details
anyone feel free to have a go. Anyway I will try to ship a fix soon for you
to try.
