Hi,
Just a quick note to let you know PPC 2004.3 is available in the
~pvdabeel/2004.3 directory.
I will not be able to start building new ppc release media until the
end of February 2005 because I have to finish my thesis. If the next
gentoo release could be scheduled after the end of February 2005, that
would be ideal.
Best regards,
Pieter Van den Abeele

Pieter,
Some time ago (when you released an RC version of the media) you stated some
additional features of the CD (I remember something of distcc and
zeroconf?). Are these features still in the media?
If they are, could you bring up a summary that can be included in the 2004.3
press release? Or would you rather not have it mentioned over there?
Also, did your doc-guys edit the documentation for the 2004.3 release? I
can't find anything in our draft/ directory which usually contains the
"release-ready" version of the documentation (so we can easily move that
from draft/ to the official location when 2004.3 is released), you might
want to poke them to put it over there.
Wkr,
Sven Vermeulen

I'll get to that today.

Ok. I went over the documentation I included myself and everything
looked fine. (No references to 2004.2 media.) No boot arguments etc
changed.
I'll cc ppc for the documentation issue.

Ehh... it is already scheduled for the first week of February. Is there
someone that you trust that can fill this role instead?

I think so yes. Let me ask what Pylon thinks.

We didn't talked about a person who will roll the release
yet. But our idea is, as long as there are no big changes
on ppc (like a gcc-3.5/4.0 move), we could just offer
updated stages and packages.
Just give me some more time until the next ppc-meeting had
took place (probably a week after the release), so that I
can be more precise with my answer.

Not a problem. We've still got plenty of time and if help is needed, be
sure to ask and we'll see what we can come up with.

I just had the chance to test it on the Pegasos. No luck,
as the kernel panics when the root fs should be mounted.
Probably I use the wrong arguments for booting (as we now
use squashfs instead of gcloop in 2004.1).
Pieter knows of the problem. I try to fetch him later the
night on IRC and resolve this issue.
Sorry for all inconveniences.

If your machine is not compatible with the bootloader on the cd, and
you need to pass arguments to the kernel using openfirmware, don't
forget to pass root=/dev/ram0 ;-p
All the other arguments are built into the kernel. The reason why this
one isn't, is that it's not in the append= parameter in the bootloader
config but has an extra root= line. I forgot to copy that one in. So
for now, pegasos people have to pass no arguments, except for
root=/dev/ram0
sorry about that. If needed I'd be happy to recompile the kernel to
include that flag. Will take me approx half an hour to get both cds
updated. Your call ;-)

but then of course the zImage needs to contain the actual ramdisk,
which wasn't the case
I've rerolled the pegasos kernel, with default boot loader args and
I've had dholm tftp boot it. It works now. The isos are updated
14:43 <dholm> it works perfectly
