Very cool. I think either way, we'll be able to provide something of use
to releng for 2005.0. Due to resources and time, we're currently
concentrating on x86 as that is the hardware that is readily available
and what most people in our neck of the Gentoo woods are accustomed to.
That is not to say that other archs such as ppc, sparc, etc. will not be
supported, only that we will get x86 on its feet and fill in the arch
specific details as resources become available.

This is a good idea. We had planned support for pointing at custom
stage3 tarballs in the profile (see our docs for additional info on
profiles etc.) which would fetch the stage if the URI is http(s):// or
copy if it's file:// which would perform something similar. Is that kind
of feature along the same lines as what you're thinking of? I'm not
super familiar with hdinstall, but I imagine it just writes the contents
of an ISO to disk.

Again, I want to thank the releng devs and you've been nothing but
supportive and helpful (especially wolf, beejay, and zhen). I've joined
the releng list so I can eavesdrop on the ideas that pop up here as
well. If anyone has ideas, comments, suggestions, etc. for installer
features or would like to help (nudge, nudge) feel free to email me,
join the gentoo-installer list or drop by #gentoo-installer.

Thanks again to all.
