Hi,
An experimental mini-install-universal-ppc-2004.1_rc1.iso is available
on my homepage (mirrored on
http://www.metadistribution.org/gentoo/experimental). The cd includes 4
2.6.5_rc2-benh1 kernels
A few notes:
- CD does not include 2004.1 stages, snapshot, docs, nor distfiles
- Main purpose is to check whether the included development kernels are
stable enough for a release.
- I have included support for JFS, REISER, EXT2, XFS supported by the
kernel, xfs user land tools missing (bug opened)
- Build against a snapshot made 20040404.
The cd has been booted (no install performed) on G5 (dual 1.8 w. radeon
9600) and G4 systems (tibook 400 and 550, ibookG4 all radeon).
PPC will upload a preliminary build (with stages, grp, the whole
shebang) by the 11th, as specified in the releng 2004.1 specifics.
Best regards,
Pieter Van den Abeele

Hi Pieter,
I've got a 12" Powerbook G4 1GHz and both the 2004.0 and 2004.1
livecd's hang on the sysfs mounting. I've bought this up previously on
#gentoo-ppc and discovered that the benh patches were causing problems.
Using the vanilla 2.6.4 and 2.6.5 sources works fine for me.
I was wondering if I am the only one having this problem and if this is
a known problem or not. If not, then I may go and report it to the
upstream people.
Thanks,

We already reported it upstream and benh says it's a userland issue. I
thought 2.6.5_rc2-benh1 was reported to work. The cd boots on the
15inch version of the powerbook, but not the 12inch.
We'll use 2.6.5 vanilla then (I only need to have an ebuild that
patches it with gcloop, luca?)
Best regards,

Maybe we could check if the gentoo-dev-sources are ok on ppc and then
use them.
The current benh tree looks like non working at least on my tibook btw.

radeon looks weird here, reports are comming in of screens flickering.
Are there any chances of getting better nvidia rivafb support when
switching to those ebuilds?
I'll probably invite johnm to the meeting to discuss kernel things.
Still have to decide upon meeting time (will do so asap).

We got a report in bugzilla today

about nvidia support seems that the benh tree has updates about rivafb,
still seems that the pmu support is completely broken and radeonfb
support is wip.
