Hi,

http://compression.ca/pbzip2/

This could probably speed up release engineering on SMP machines. 
Provides near linear speedup:
Twice as fast to bzip2 compress or decompress a file on my dual cpu 
machines.

I'll add the support into Catalyst as soon as the package is in Portage.
Unfortunately though, I do not have the time to maintain this package.

If nobody else steps up to the plate, I'll add it to portage and make it
owned by the livecd herd, with me as maintainer.
