Hi all -
Just keeping you up-to-date as to what is going on from my end of
things. Also, a quick reminder that the releng meeting is tomorrow May
12, at 1800 UTC in #gentoo-releng. Please try to make it as we will be
discussing some very important things.

Okay, first is 3rd party modules on the LiveCD. Thanks to the hard work
of agriffis, a little help from some other people, and about three late
nights of my own, the unresolved symbols bug present when using 3rd
party modules (ie pcmcia) has been resolved! I will commit my Catalyst
changes to CVS when agriffis gets baselayout-1.9.0(1?) into stable.
Hopefully this will happen in the coming week or so.

Kernel configs for the LiveCDs are coming along. Livewire, roger55, and
beejay are presently working on them. If they can, I would like them to
have them to me by the 17th (or earlier if they finish them) so that we
can start getting some test cds out on the mirrors. I am going to make
absolutely sure to make 2004.2 x86 is as bug free as possible.

I encourage the rest of the arches to start working on their release
media, LiveCDs especially, ASAP as they take the most time to test. If
we can hammer out many of the LiveCD bugs as possible for .2 we will
make a lot of users (and developers) happy.

So, keep doing what you are doing, and keep me informed please. x86
kernel config people, let me know what is going on. See you all tomorrow
at the meeting.

Cheers,
//zhen

The ppc bootable livecds are as good as ready. I'm doing GRP/stages
builds now (mostly testing impact of toolchain changes on the
binaries). I'm hoping to build a gcc-3.4 or gcc-3.3.3_hammer compiled
release.
I'm using exactly the 2004.1 kernel and kernel config (except maybe for
pegasos support) since no problems were reported.

On my todo list is:

- cleaning up the ppc kernel ebuild categories. (Is johnm still around,
haven't heared from him in a while) - will be done by a new developer
(training ends on thursday)
- updated toolchain testing (incl. optimized G5 support)
- some small ebuilds (powerpc32 kernel personality changing tool)
allowing users to install a 64bit kernel with 32bit userland (no
multilib yet)
- (maybe) 32bit chrp/prep compatibility

Best regards,

Pieter Van den Abeele
