Hi all -
Hopefully your week has gone well. I would have mailed an update
earlier, but my school managed to break their exchange (ugh) server
which in turn destroyed my school mail account.

Progress on 2004.1 is going well. The 2004.1 homepage, where any and all
information regarding 2004.1 can be found, is online at
<http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/release/2004.1/releng/2004.1.xml>.
I advise the arch release coordinators to carefully review that page, as
well as the 2004.1 feature request list
(<http://www.gentoo.org/proj/en/releng/release/2004.1/releng/feature-request.xml>), as both documents set both the goals and vision for 2004.1.

The much anticipated Release Guidelines are in development and will be
posted to both the web and -releng very soon.

2004.1 is not that far off (April 28th tentatively), so there are some
things that arch release coordinators might want to start doing. I would
recommend getting a release test cycle in place where (at the very
least) stages and LiveCDs are rebuilt at a regular interval so that bugs
can be identified and addressed. Two of the main goals for 2004.1, as
mentioned on the 2004.1 homepage, are to be high quality and relatively
stress free. Good QA processes are one of the first steps that can be
taken to achieve these goals.

Next, stackable profiles are on the way. The goal of this feature is to
remove the bloat from profiles and in the process create a much more
intuitive system. Bug seemant about the profiles for your arch.

If there are any questions or concerns, you know where to find me ;)

Cheers,
//zhen

What about feature requests that aren't on that list? As I've mentioned on
IRC, I believe that GPG package signing is of critical importance to Gentoo
and it's something that I'd like to see in 2004.1.

What is the process for discussing/voting on feature requests?

Could you add the GDP request for
- A listing of available boot kernels on each LiveCD
- A listing of supported boot options on each LiveCD
- The output of find on a mounted CD
- The output of find on a booted LiveCD

to the QA steps? This way the GDP can validate the instructions too and
it also allows us to better anticipate questions on #gentoo or
forums.gentoo.org without having to download all possible CDs, have all
architectural boxes sitting behind us, etc.

At best, this should be placed online somewhere, but at least it should be
made available.

Also, is it possible to provide these things for 2004.0 too? Many questions
are pooring in regarding 2004.0 and it would really be beneficial for those
of us continuously helping ppl in #gentoo (roger55 is also a great demander
of it).

Wkr,
	Sven Vermeulen

Kurt -
I have contacted the people that are working on it, and it seems that
they are swamped for time. There is not really any formal process
(probably should be explored in the future), so if the feature is a
realistic one, I will usually add it. If you think it can be completed
in time, then I will add it.

Cheers,
