You need a later kernel than the one on the 2007.0 liveCD. The current gentoo-sources is fine, then set you kernel configuration as this post http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-4570091.html#4570091 I wrote that in response to a Intel ICH7 question but it works for ICH6=20 chipsets and later.
