I have a WIP branch trying out this proposal at
https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/10615 .

For now, only line_profiler is adapted to the new slotted approach. We
still have to adapt all revdeps, but at least, the slotted approach
will (theoretically) limit the area of change to direct revdeps.
