While I agree that such traffic is not technically off-topic, I'm not
sure it is really the most efficient way to learn about the candidates
(could you imagine the potential size of such a thread, with an
endless series of questions posed by voters and responses by
candidates intermixed?).
Why not do it this way: We set up one thread (easily filtered for
those who wish to do so) with the Subject "Questions for Candidates."
Anybody who cares can pose a question with context if you must
(questions preferred over speeches). Then let candidates just edit
their manifestos addressing whatever questions they care to answer.
If somebody has a neurotic need to keep their personal version of the
score by all means post a table somewhere and announce it once, but we
don't need a running commentary - this isn't politico.
As we actually get into the voting period the result will be a bunch
of informative manifestos that people can read once and a couple of
isolated pages of support that everybody can ignore, and not a
5000-post flamewar as people debate questions, answers, and so on.
And if you really just want to know how one candidate feels about xyz,
send them an email - they can update their manifesto if they feel the
community would like to hear their answer.
