Sure, that might be how upstream intended it, but it is a change all the same. If maintainers are comfortable with it no harm in doing it with testing. I haven't really seen any complaints per-se. I'd love to hear from package maintainers that use gen_usr_ldscript either way. I wouldn't be one to oppose the change, but I just wanted to make sure that everybody was aware of the consequences.
