Hello fellow developers, users and community.

The topic of how to find a developer's IRC nick was brought up again on
#gentoo-dev today. Robin recalled that we already allow developers to
specify their IRC nick using the GentooIM field on our LDAP.
So at this point it would be possible to provide a public way to find
the nicks from developers. The question then, dear fellow developers, is
can we make this data public?
In a related issue, sometime ago I've found out the Gentoo Users[1]
site. One way to allow such sites to provide "confirmed" location of
developers would be for us to provide a public list of developers
locations. The question here is again can we make this data public? In
this case we already "publish" that information in Gentoo Developer's
Map[2].

Robin noticed that the current distribution of IRC nicks on our LDAP is

So, about the GentooIM field, should we make all data in there public?
Only the data matching the "irc://" or "irc://irc.freenode.net/" prefix?
Do you fellow developers have any suggestions or requests about this?
What about the lat / lon fields?

Please let us know what you think so that we can determine if / how can
we make any of this information public.

I'm aware of that policy, but I belief this issue didn't warranted being
announced on gentoo-dev-announce.
