I'll be happy to be taught why this isnt just lazyness and/or power play. Having multiple gcc's of same *minor* version (i.e. 4.8.1, 4.8.2, ...) installed at the same time for testing purposes is a valid use case, but way more exotic than e.g. running KDE git master.
