Hi, everyone.

TL;DR: I've refurbished the 'Staffing Needs' page [1], adding 'Urgency'
and 'Difficulty' fields, and fixed sorting. Please update your requests
setting those two values and/or add new needs as you see fit [2].

First of all, I'd like to thank everyone for their replies to
the project mails so far. For the projects whose members did not reply,
I'd like to ask you to do so. If you've lost the mail, feel free to just
ping me.

Now, to the topic at hand. From the replies gotten so far (and that only
includes projects that are active enough to reply early), the need for
volunteers is much greater than I anticipated. However, the need differs
between the projects and ranges from 'this project is practically dead
until someone can revive it' to 'we always appreciate more help but
we're good now'.

That said, the 'Staffing Needs' page [1] is pretty full already, with
requests ranging -- again -- from non-urgent to urgent. I found it
extremely confusing with all that data just dumped in one big table,
and I wondered how to improve it.

As a first idea, I've added an 'Urgency' field. It's a numeric value
from 1 to 5 (1 = least urgent, 5 = very urgent) that defines how much
you need new people. It comes with nice colorful urgency bars (which
might require a fancy CSS3-capable browser), and ability to sort.

Necessary bits already in place, I've also decided to add a 'Difficulty'
field which can be used to define how hard the task would be for
a volunteer, i.e. how much of skills/training is required.

While reworking the table, I also accidentally fixed sorting ;-).

I would like to ask that all teams that filed staffing needs already,
look through them and set Urgency and Difficulty appropriately. I also
encourage the other teams to visit [2] and add their staffing needs
appropriately.

If you have any ideas how to improve the page even more, possibly
classify the needs better, your comments will also be most welcome.

Make (part of) the the requirements more clear and semi-formal. E.g., have a
switch "not required / soft requirement / hard requirement", which maybe
changes table sorting:

* Must be Gentoo dev?

* (what else?)

The table is a bit silly in the sense that part of it addresses devs, part
not...

Kinda makes sense. I wonder if we should also have a special category
for proxied maintainers there.

I was thinking of some kind of 'topic'. Like, some jobs involve package
maintenance, some just testing, and some upstream code development.

Maybe it'd be worth to consider it as some kind of tag/keyword system.
Otherwise, I feel like soon enough it's going to have 10 questions or so
;-).

There is more then Proxy Maintainers. There are also positions within Security that do not require Dev Access
