Hi all
I've quickly made two handouts. The first one is based on our about page,
the second one is more personal :)
http://dev.gentoo.org/~swift/pr/aboutgentoo-1.pdf
http://dev.gentoo.org/~swift/pr/aboutgentoo-2.pdf
Thoughts? Ideas?
The "designs" are made with scribus, I'll put the sources out if you want. I
need suggestions for both content and layout. Should we add more "fancy"
stuff to it?
Wkr,
Sven Vermeulen

Too text-heavy! It looks gray, like the New York Times.
I like the general idea here regarding content, but the text layout
looks funny. Particularly the centered headers over left-justified text.
Try to fully justify the text or set the headers to the left edge and
see how things look.
For some reason, the bottom of what would be the front once it's folded
just looks very cheesy to me. Anyone else? And I'm not sure the
pr@gentoo.org alias wants to get deluged with email all about random new
Gentoo users.. =)

Please do put the sources up somewhere. Aren't they just XML, if you
save uncompressed? They could go in CVS.

s/healty/healthy/
s/--/-/ (long dash) or at least, don't let -- be hyphened.
emerge packagename : <cursive>packagename</cursive>
s/Gentoo has an extensive documentation/Gentoo has extensive documentation/
It looks a bit crammed when printed. Maybe a slight increase of letter spacing
could help?
Maybe you should align headers and text.
How does it look with justified text?
What's the point of '"cow" doesn't always mean female' ?
Cow does not always mean bovine either.
If it's humour, it does not work.
page 1 has www@gentoo.org, use it here as well.
"We produce Gentoo, a top-notch Linux distribution" (Add Linux)
s/wether your/whether you are/ (maybe a wether would get along with Larry ;-))
s/solutions/solution/ (searching for a....solution)
s/testing ,/testting,/
Again, I would try to align headers with the text and justify it.
IMHO, blue text should not use same blue as links, or no blue at all.
Linux should be followed by tm and Linus' trademark should be acknowledged.
Could you copy the scribus files to your dev space?
Just 2% of whichever currency in turbo mode, gotta go, maybe more later.
Cheers,

I'd love to see the Scribus files for those. Two unfiltered spontaneous
thoughts: Fonts in the text bodies are too large, and you don't have
wide enough margins. No, three unfiltered spontaneous thoughts: Don't
put all the illustrations on the outside of the folded flyer. No,
four... :) CVS sounds like a good idea, where would I have to look for
it?
Cheers

In the first one, do we really want to go into details of which commands
are used? And encouraging users to see emerge -u world as all you need
to do to upgrade sounds like a bad idea.

Thanks for the many responses! I've updated the documents with few of the
comments (those that I could adjust immediately without thinking). I haven't
changed the location of the images in the second one, but I did put out both
scribus source code files in CVS.
You can grab them at [gentoo-projects]/pr/handouts or through ViewCVS (when
the webnodes synchronise) at
http://www.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/pr/handouts?root=gentoo-projects
Feel free to adjust. The images are placed in a subdirectory; if you add
images, don't forget to use "-bk" (to denote binary files).

For those not willing to install Scribus and happy with PDF outcomes, the
updated ones are still available at the previously mentioned urls:
