[gentoo-ppc-user] ibook2 external vga resolution

Hello, 

i'd like to know if anybody managed to run a resolution > 1024x768 on
the vga output of a 12" G3/500 dual usb iBook (mine has r128 M3 graphics
card).
I tried reconfiguring X and would like to switch off lcd, then go up to
1280x1024 on the external using the grandr applet or somesuch. So far
grandr not even offers the choice to go 1280x1024.
Is this possible at all?

I don't believe its possible with an iBook, AFAIK the vga output just
mirrors the display on lcd so 1024x768 would be the maximum.

My hope would have been that it's only the display which limits the
resolution. If the graphics hardware can do more why shouldn't it be
possible to run higher resolution on an external vdu while the internal
lcd is off.

i used those instructions to turn on dual-monitor support on an ibook2. 
though i have only tested dual-monitor with osx.
