I just build my first gentoo server over the weekend - I love it! I've
been running Linux on various platforms for about 9 years now and
gentoo turns out a really nice compact build. I moved this particular
server from a x86 box running Mandrake 9.1 to a G3/450 machine - so far
I'm seeing some pretty good speed boosts across the board versus the
x86 machine (of similar vintage and clock speed).
I noticed there are a lot of packages that are not currently tested for
PPC... I've ended up installing a couple of things already that flat
out aren't available in the PPC or ~PPC portage trees. I'd love to be
able to discuss/report problems and successes, would this be the place
to do it?
The biggest challenge I'm having right now is amanda - I need to get my
backup system up and running ASAP. Anyone have any luck getting amanda
working on PPC? I've run amanda on PPC before (older versions under
Yellow Dog 1.2) so I know it can be done. Anyone running amanda on
gentoo-1.4 PPC?
