hi,

emerging cinelerra 1.1.7 seems to work fine until make install.
error:
strip ppc/cinelerra
strip: ppc/cinelerra: No such file or directory
make: *** [install] Error 1

seems only the binary is missing, there is a deadlink
/var/tmp/portage/cinelerra-1.1.7/work/cinelerra-1.1.7/cinelerra/ci

pointing to i686/cinelerra which is - of course not there.

I'm not a makefile specialist nor I'm a hacker. I cannot dig into deeper ..
does anyone see a reason why the ebuild is doing this and how to fix?
I'd really appreciate to have the ibook running with video & audio edit desktop, plus functioning dtp, 3D & design software to show linux' desktop free software capabilities, and am still testing around the ebuilds.

thanx in advance.

that is a cinelerra Makefiles problem

it does not mean nothing we don't use that link

I can assure that fixing cinelerra would take something like a month

the ebuild is just for x86

you can use blender for 3d and is working, you can use scribus for dtp,
you can use gimp and sodipodi for 2d graphics and so on, but you cannot
use cinelerra: it won't build on ppc w/out serious hacking (I managed to
build it somewhat internally but then we had MANY endianess issues and
other random problems), and as I say before would took lots of time that
I don't have.

I expected.

double negotiaton ?? ;) sure this link means nothing, but I thought maybe it's a simple mistake in the file structure or just a displaced link, which - replaced - maybe could fix the compilation.. sadly not.

darn.

hm, this I expected also. but having it on ppc would be _very_ useful!
I'm sitting in an media university, sometimes giving tutorials to the students.
bringing them on their preferred hardware (ppc) an open source tool for professional video editing is one step to engage folks using free stuff _before_ they realize after study that they have to buy all that expensive closed source stuff to be able to work ..

ACK, already doing.

ACK, already doing.

well, sodipodi is compiling, but not starting, but this could have something to do with my USE of xml _and_ xml2, seems its compiled against libxml and tries to run on libxml2. will see in an hour if this was the problem.
additional: frontline for vectorizing graphics, runs also fine on ppc.
