Nice to see the versioned virtuals in the tree. :-D
One related question: Will perl-core ebuilds for which virtuals don't
exist, such as Getopt-Long, be going away?

no...it actually looks like a few things that were core (or were to my
tired eyes) during the split aren't in core in 5.8.8...they're still
valid, just not dup'd in the main perl install anymore...i'll be working
on getting virtual into all the deps that point to the old perl-core
soon as i can :)
