Those last 2 words should be stressed... don't want anyone getting
false ideas of whats being done here...

Yeah, I'm pretty much finished with the base-system packages, so a
traditional prefixed stage{1,3} can take the place of haubis stage0/
toolsbox stuff. Of course you still need to bootstrap manually if you
want a different default prefix than whatever the stage builders
used. For Darwin/OS X, I'm leaning towards using /Library/Portage as
the default prefix, not sure about what would be preferable for other
systems. /opt might be a good choice, but for reasons I can't really
clarify yet, a unique namespace seems better suited...but I digress.
