Hello,
I'd like to start asking questions to our Trustee candidates similarly
to how we do it for the Council.
The first question is for candidates who have been Trustees before (i.e.
all of them right now):
What have you done as a Trustee in your most recent term? How do you
reflect on your work, and why? What would you do better, and how?

I am currently (and for the past year) President, Gentoo Foundation Inc. My
perception is that the Foundation is responsible for very little in the
eyes of the current community. In the past year we did two major things:
- Signed a deal with Nitrokey to issue keys to developers: We have since
paid for 96 keys.
- Hired a firm to do the Foundations taxes, we have paid back taxes for 4
years to the IRS.
For this upcoming year I would prefer to retain our tax firm (to pay taxes
this year) and look for a book-keeper so that Robin can have his time
freed. While my manifesto for President detailed adopting an umbrella
organization I don't realistically expect to find time for that in fiscal
2021.
In general when the Foundation had proposed to be more involved (e.g. by
raising more money and funding more initiatives) it was my perception that
community feedback was negative to both of these things; and so I felt our
energy was best directed at sustaining the status quo for the foundation.

My most recent term was the first half of 2018 when I can in to cover for a retired developer.
My main focus then was supporting in the way I could addressing the accounting issues the foundation had, with a lot of help from K_F.
Seeing that progress has been made since then I think that the work I did was positive and there isn't much to be improved on.
That said, I have nominated myself as other years out of an interest in ensuring the foundation has enough trustees to keep working and not for any other reason. I sincerely think that both prometheanfire and b-man have done an amazing job over the last two years and will keep doing a similarly good job over the next two if elected and in fact strongly recommend voting them before my own self :)

I'm sorry but I'm not sure if that really answers the question. This
really feels like you're saying what Foundation did, not what you did.
I was asking what you personally was responsible for, what was the gain
from having you as a Trustee compared to the situation that somebody
else had the seat. I would like to know what you actually physically
did, not what votes you took part in or what you signed off on
as the president.

You are aware that Alec is not even a candidate for this election (he was elected on 2019 when you were also a candidate and has a mandate of two years) and he is answering your question in the quality of President and not that of a candidate, aren't you?

No, I'm not. I'm sorry, I haven't cross-referenced his reply to list of
candidates.

Hi, Michał. For my past tenure as a trustee, I specifically focused on
determining which make/model of hardware keys would be suitable to
provide to Gentoo developers from the foundation. This included
researching the various keys, determining price, ensuring they were
FOSS, etc.
Also, I picked up a couple of small bugs here and there. The one that
took most of my time was ensuring some websites were removed by the
hosting provider which were using Gentoo logos/material.
Further, I supported *some* of the research into reincorporation
vs umbrella for the foundation. As many know, I have my reservations
regarding umbrella corporations. Of course, inline with my fellow
trustees, we must exercise due diligence and investigate both options
for the good of the distribution.
Of course, all trustees can take some credit for the taxes finally being
paid. *Most* of us spent some time corresponding with the company who
assisted us in finalizing and paying. Most notably though, Matthew made
the connection with the company and Robin spent many many hours passing
along financial information. Truly a team effort.

Cheers,
Aaron

The main thing I did outside my primary role as scretary is to find
someone to handle our taxes for us.
Trustees do not have a super-active role right now other than cleaning
up taxes and preparing for eventual umbrella applications. In these
respects we are progressing (even if not super quick). The main things
I suggest we need to do is to find someone to run the books on a more
permament basis.
