To whom it may concern,

This email contains notifications of the start of the election period
for the 2017 Trustee Election. [1]

Only Foundation members may vote. [2]

Voting Period:
2017/07/27 00H00 UTC — 2017/08/16 00H00 UTC

The new trustees will take their seats at the AGM on Aug 20.
Trustees serve a two year term and retire by rotation every year.

This year, Sven Vermeulen (SwifT), Robin H. Johnson (robbat2) and Alec Warner
 (antarus) retire by rotation.

There are thus three seats on the board of trustees to be contested.

The Annual General Meeting of the Gentoo Foundation Inc. will be held
on 20th August 2017 in #gentoo-trustees on irc.freenode.net at 1900 UTC.

Am I understand correctly that votify --submit $name just
renames .ballot-* to .ballot-*-submitted, so a voter can edit
the ballot file later (but before the deadline) in case they want
to made some adjustments?

Andrew,

I reccommend against editing .ballot-*-submitted as edits won't be
validated. This could mean that your vote may not be counted.

You are free to tear up your ballot and request a new one at any
time.

You can edit the submitted vote, but I would recommend then renaming the
ballot to .ballot-* and run votify --verify and votify --submit. That
will catch any mistakes in the ballot.
As Roy warned, editing the submitted ballot and not validating the final
ballot, might cause it to be discarded.

Yes, that was exactly what I intended to do if there will be a need
for such action.

Understood, thanks for your answers.

Frankly I though all previous elections that ballot is send to some
external service, so it is uneditable after submission and is kept
locally for reference purposes. So I assumed that I can't change my
preferences after a ballot is submitted, thus I submitted it late
(one ore two days before the deadline).

Now I see that actual implementation is much simpler, so this is a
very good news :)

Best regards,
Andrew Savchenko

Reminder - less than 5 days of voting time left in the Gentoo Foundation
trustees election!

Cheers, Andreas
