All of a sudden my rsync mirror is outputting this:

Started update at Tue Mar 28 15:49:59 EST 2006
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(471) [receiver]
End: Tue Mar 28 15:50:07 EST 2006

It was working fine up until:
Started update at Fri Mar 24 12:00:01 EST 2006

After that, at 12:30
Started update at Fri Mar 24 12:30:01 EST 2006
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [receiver]
rsync error: error in rsync protocol data stream (code 12) at io.c(471) [receiver]
End: Fri Mar 24 12:30:02 EST 2006

My box's DNS entry is:
rsync10.us.gentoo.org

I have no idea why this is happening. Is there something going on with the portage mirrors or is it my box?

In the mean time I am going to reboot it and change mirrors to see.

Thanks

Nick,

What version of rsync are you running? We've seen that issue with
version 2.6.0. Those who have updated their rsync to 2.6.5 and later,
have seen the problem go away.

*  net-misc/rsync
      Latest version available: 2.6.7
      Latest version installed: 2.6.7

Should I revert back? The research I did on Gentoo Forums and Google did not really give me an exact answer as to why this
would be happening. I've rebooted, restarted the services, done everything you would try first.

Nick,

Interesting. I would say try reverting back to 2.6.5. As far as my
recollection goes, anything >2.6.0 "fixed" the issue, but I sit
corrected.

I added net-misc/rsync-2.6.7 to my /etc/portage/packages.mask and installed rsync-2.6.6-r1 and it rsync'ed just fine.

Apparently there is a regression issue in 2.6.7? Or a patch did not get applied with the ebuild?

Either way it fixed it for me. Thanks for the info!
