[gentoo-mirrors] 2005.1

Hi,

I have a problem with my mirror for the 2005.1 release.

The directory structure seems to be complete, but there are no files in there
(at least not in the x86 directory).

# pwd
/mirrors/gentoo/complete/releases/x86/2005.1

# find . -type d
.
./stages
./stages/x86
./stages/x86/hardened
./stages/i686
./stages/athlon-xp
./stages/pentium3
./stages/pentium4
./packagecd
./installcd

# find . -type f
<nothing>

The current link already points to 2005.1.

I am syncing with the master as followed:

rsync -aq -H --delete --password-file=/rsync_pass
	--timeout=300 rsync://gentoo@masterdistfiles.gentoo.org/gentoo/ 		
	/mirrors/gentoo/complete

If it is my fault, can anybody what I can do to improve?

Depending on your setup, you may need to check the perms on that tree and open 
it up accordingly so your rsync process can write in that directory.

Let me know if that does not work

I think I got it now:

switching from rsync://gentoo@masterdistfiles.gentoo.org/gentoo/ to
rsync://gentoo@distfiles.gentoo.org/gentoo-distfiles/ will do the trick

I think I got it now:

switching from rsync://gentoo@masterdistfiles.gentoo.org/gentoo/ to
rsync://gentoo@distfiles.gentoo.org/gentoo-distfiles/ will do the trick

the permissions like Corey suggested and we can try to nail down your

more that 10KB/s to the masterdistfiles.gentoo.org, and problem is definetly
not in our side...

And it was proposed already year or 2 ago that a european distfiles 
master is needed... Jeffrey, Corey, got any updates on that one?

I believe the effort floundered when we were unable to locate a server with
enough pipe and SCSI disk to support it.  We can certainly revisit the idea
if someone has such a server.

Hi Kurt,

Please talk to bonsaikitten, he has got offered sponsored rack space in
a datacenter in Dusseldorf/Germany. I'm pretty sure the Friends of
Gentoo e.V. would try their best to organize an adequate server.

I offered the exact same thing back then. Actually, it's in the
same city, but probably not in the same datacenter.

I don't have a server, but i can offer an external raid.
4u, 5 ide disks, external inteface is scsi.

If "only" mirroring is needed (with ftp, rsync, cvs or whatever) and no
access to the box for Gentoo staff we should be able to offer some
terrabytes of SAN diskspace on a GE pipe in a few weeks.

responding, i will be contacting the admin there and see whats going on.

The command that I quoted did take some time to complete. I had actually
written that gentoo{1,4}.afn.org do not respond as well (with gentoo1
being pingable), but deleted it as gentoo1 eventually served my request.

You could probably try harder :)

Georgi, et al:

I heard back from our provider of those boxes, and apparently it had a 
load of over 35. They are looking into it and plan on adding another box 
into the rotation shortly. I will keep you posted.
