Hi,
You will find a draft for GWN article about gentoo-syntax for the
Emacsen, as the XEmacs version will be included in the tree next week.
Please write your comments to the list:
For a long time people using Emacs were looking at
app-vim/gentoo-syntax [1] and had strong feelings of envy as the support
for writing ebuilds with their favourite operating system was quite
limited.
Last year Matthew Kennedy (mkennedy, retired) and Diego Petteno
(flameeyes) started with a simple ebuild-mode, which provided syntax
highlighting for basic ebuilds and eselect modules.
Up to now the Emacs project [2] (which gathers GNU Emacs and XEmacs in
Gentoo) has added support for many eclasses (java*, games*, all
scm-related as git.eclass, to highlight some) and you can call the
ebuild command for the ebuild you are working on with the key
combination C-c C-e.
Just emerge app-emacs/gentoo-syntax [3] or app-xemacs/gentoo-syntax
[4] and enjoy the new possibilities.
