Hi guys,

I have an IBM Thinkpad T43 with the IPW2200 card. Current setup is
Windows XP with VMWare Workstation 5.0.0 Gentoo is setup and everything
works. I just can not get gentoo to see the wireless card. I have 2
adapters installed, one sees the LAN port but the other has no way of
communicating with the IPW2200. I have built it in the kernel and
emerged wireless-tools. Removing this from the kernel and emerging
ipw2200-firmware does not work also. iwconfig sees nothing. Any thoughts
off the top of your heads?

Kindest Regards

Gary

Hi Gary,

My notebook uses IPW2200 too and I had similiar problems as far as I can
remember.

Compiling the driver into the kernel did not work. So I build
the IPW2200 as a module. The firmware is needed in general because it
is used by the driver.
If you got the kernel and the module ready and have emerged the
firmware, just boot the new kernel and run
modprobe ipw2200
You can check the result by watching the output of dmesg.
Try iwconfig to see if you have an adapter with wireless extensions.

If it works this way, you can add the driver module to
/etc/modules.autoload.d/kernel-2.6

Best regards,
Peter

have you done lspci to see what the VM gives you for a nic? When I last
looked, all of the VM nics were some weird brand (basically the vmware
brand). You might be building support for something that doesn't exist.
