That's quite easy on the gentoo livecd for instance, not sure how to do it on knoppix. If you have a booting gentoo system and can't mount the knoppix disk from within gentoo - if you are sure the CD isn't corrupted in it's filesystem: then it probably comes down once again to kernel issues - probably a lack of a certain filesystem support in "Bad superblock" normally either formatting errors / corrupt disk, or support for a particular file system not built into kernel etc. etc. You've probably tried all these things, but they are the sort of directions I'd be moving in if I were you.
