This was on the Dell Inspiron 1200, which is a $600 laptop and works pretty well with linux. I can't recommend that laptop because the keyboard is *terrible*. It has a funny lip at the bottom end that drives me crazy. All the hardware support is fine, though. The X versions were recent (fedora core 3 installed perfectly first time, then ran the update systems to bring uptodate), and gentoo 2005.1 with full updates about a month back. With the gentoo system I did a phase I, but everything was great - there's a driver, and it runs fine. On gentoo I believe I was using framebuffer support, so no 3D. That doesn't bother me - Grand Theft Auto doesn't run on Gentoo yet. And, on gentoo, I was running command line only. The one problem I had with the Inspiron 1200 was 16-bit cardbus support. Apparently you have to figure out the memory exclude areas yourself. New changes in the 2.6.13+ kernels are supposed to fix that --- but really, most of my cardbus stuff is 32-bit anyway. -brianb Wojciech Polak wrote: >What version of X do you use and how did you make it working > >Wojtek > > > > >>>Above all avoid Intel 8xx, 9xx graphics cards.
