[gentoo-laptop] oops! recompile kernel and not can't boot!

Hi,

I have an old powerbook (pismo) and have gentoo installed on it.
"linux-2.6.16-gentoo-r9" I needed to recompile the kernel to try go get
my VXPocket sound card working, and after doing that (manually) It won't
boot. It dies right away and the last thing on the screen is:

...
Calling quiesce ...
returning from prom_init

It just hangs there...
Anyone know what is happened here?

In case anyone is interested this was solved by upgrading gentoo-sources
to kernel version linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8 then make menuconfig && make &&
make modules_install, then
cp /usr/src/linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8/vmlinux /boot/kernel-2.6.17-gentoo-r8
then ln -s /usr/src/linux /usr/src/linux-2.6.17-gentoo-r8
then reboot and it was fine...

Is that a mac-specific line?

I'm used to seeing the new kernel image in 
/usr/src/linux/arch/*arch*/bzImage

Yes that is a PPC thing. the /boot/ directory is actually part of the
root. I have not tested everything before I wrote the email, so the boot
thing is solved, there are more problems... Now I can't get the sound
card to work... see
