This is an open email to members of the gentoo-sources herd.
I would like to officialy take over the lead role for the
gentoo-sources sub-project. This does not include the entire kernel
project as I'm not really sure if we need an overall kernel lead. Things
seem to be running relatively smoothly with having the sub-projects run
themselves.
I don't want this look like a coup so if anyone would rather have the
job or an election, please just let me know.

You do an excellent job in kernel team. I am 101% on board with you as kernel
team leader
Cheers

You have my support too. hardened-sources depends on gentoo-sources and
you've done a good job in supporting hardened :)
Regarding a kernel lead, I'm not sure either, but we need to keep lines
of communication open because often times an issue comes in as a
"hardened kernel" issue when its really a vanilla issue and affects all
of us. I'm sure the same happens for every flavor of kernel in gentoo.
My general approach has been if its a hardened specific issue we deal
exclusively at our end, but if its vanilla, then the bug should be
reassigned to the larger group because we all have a stake in it.
That's not to say that we can't all tackle general kernel issues.

I think it shouldn't be a problem =)

Hey Mike!
I'm wondering - since I'm a bit ignorant on Gentoo organizational
internals - what exactly is the role of a sub-project leader?
And what's the role of the gentoo-sources sub-project leader?
The only up-to-date thing I managed to gather is:
"Decisions within a project can be made by the people inside the
project itself, of course coordination between the projects is
necessary. The (sub-)project leads are usually responsible for doing
this." [1]
Thank you :)

How you currently see me maintain Gentoo-Sources is exactly how things will continue. I would like to see a more active dev in the lead role. It's possible a meeting of kernel leads might also be helpful to identify issues or areas that need more developers. But that's off topic.

I see.
I guess that I'm more than okay with you taking the gentoo-sources
sub-project's leadership then, after all you've been doing a fantastic
job maintaining the package :)

No objection from me, keep up the great work!
