[gentoo-kernel] new kernel not booting

Hello All,

I am having the following problem with my kernel.  When I try to boot 
it, I get the following error:

And yes, my root device is /dev/sda3.  My current working kernel does 
boot from there fine but not the new one

Any thoughts on the problem below:

Sacnning for sata_uli...cat: /lib/modules/2.6.16-gentoo-r3/modules.dep: 
No such file or directory

 >> Activating udev
 >> Determining root device
!! Block device /dev/sda3 is not a valid root device...
!! The root block device is unspecified or not detected.

Please specify a device to boot, or "shell" for a shell...

Looks like you're using an initrd.  you need to either compile in sata
support for whatever chipset sda is on or you need to compile them as
modules and get those into your initrd.
