Other packages do/did this, e.g. hdaps Ok. Let's me suggest another way. I'd like to standardize (eclass) the place such ebuilds install patches. Together with place, I'd like to add information (may be in patch name or inside patch itself) what kernels this patch supports. Is this the way to go? After this I'm sure there will be no problem to have external tool to simplify patching. If you do not like it - do not use it. > But the only real solution is this: get the patch merged upstream, or=20 > equivalent functionality offered in the mainline kernel. Everything else=20 > is working against the flow of the kernel. Eh. I see your intentions. But IMQ will never get upstream while me and many other people are using it and AFAIK currently there is not substitution for it (IFB is different). patch-o-matic patches are really slow in moving to official tree, while I have to use it's functionality. There will be always such patches. --=20 Peter. --=-k6KetE+fKRfTdVwjvDgn Content-Type: application/pgp-signature; name=signature.asc Content-Description: =?UTF-8?Q?=D0=AD=D1=82=D0=B0?= =?UTF-8?Q?_=D1=87=D0=B0=D1=81=D1=82=D1=8C?= =?UTF-8?Q?_=D1=81=D0=BE=D0=BE=D0=B1=D1=89=D0=B5=D0=BD=D0=B8=D1=8F?= =?UTF-8?Q?_=D0=BF=D0=BE=D0=B4=D0=BF=D0=B8=D1=81=D0=B0=D0=BD=D0=B0?= =?UTF-8?Q?_=D1=86=D0=B8=D1=84=D1=80=D0=BE=D0=B2=D0=BE=D0=B9?= =?UTF-8?Q?_=D0=BF=D0=BE=D0=B4=D0=BF=D0=B8=D1=81=D1=8C=D1=8E?= -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v2.0.7 (GNU/Linux) iD8DBQBHdJ0Ez6tlgEWSarMRAl6sAJoD9ZcMNfYus7uDJyNH5dijV9lYUgCghzP2 a7S9Rk8iGFbR7KO5g1mPLx4= =CK7F -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- --=-k6KetE+fKRfTdVwjvDgn-- -- gentoo-kernel@gentoo.org mailing list
