Hi gang,

there's been talk for some time now about improving the way we handle
Java webapps in Gentoo. The debate has mostly focused on
developer-specific wishes that come from developers of webapps on Gentoo
 Linux.

One aspect which has not been discussed any much detail is which web
applications we should package for end-users/sysadmins that are only
interested in running webapps on Gentoo Linux which incidentally happen
to be written in Java. For Python/PHP/Perl, there're things like Trac,
IssueTracker, Bugzilla, PHPNuke, Zope, and whatnot under www-apps,
currenly maintained by the web-apps herd.

I would very much welcome suggestions for a good, long list of
substantial, useful and interesting webapps written in Java, that we
some day should end up packaging.

Cheers,

-- Karl T

PS. We'll not commit to actually packaging anything at this point, but I
hope to get some feedback and the ball rolling.

The only ones I can think of offhand are OpenCMS and Jira. As the name
implies, OpenCMS is a content management system. Jira is a bug/issue
tracker.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I've started a page on our newish Trac
(wiki + bugs + svn monitoring) here [1].

Would you happen to know the URL for JBoss Nukes? I wasn't able to find
any sites there were like 'yo, this is the JBoss Nukes home page'.

First one that comes to mind is the Expresso framework.
http://jcorporate.com/
A struts based web app framework with OR mapping and lots of convenience.
It's a web app that you can use straight away.

Come to think of it have Struts and Shale had a mention yet?

Barry.

We're actually looking for web applications, not web frameworks. Perhaps
that is worth starting a separate thread for this.

Struts (the original one) is already in portage.
