The the migration document shoud warm about this. Anyway, I did 

java-config-2 -S sun-jdk-1.4

Now:

$ java -version
java version "1.4.2_10"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_10-b03)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_10-b03, mixed mode)

But ant-core continues to build with java-1.5.
