Hi there,

I am new to this list - I am wondering if there are any
active/semi-active developers currently working on the Java 1.5
packages, as I would like to help out.

regards,
Mathew Robertson

Welcome. There are several such developers lurking here, as well as
non-official developers (like me). Much of the work lately has been on
stabilizing the Java 5 and (eventually) Java 6 environments on Gentoo.
In that vein, there is currently a package-freeze in place while that
stabilization work is in progress.

To get you started on recent history I suggest you check out the mail
list archives for this list at gmane:

Hello and welcome.

To see what's going on with Java 1.5, I'll point you over to our Trac
[1] setup for this purpose. Things have been a bit quiet recently on
this front, as the primary devs (myself and kartlk) have been quite busy
recently with this thing called Real Life. My schedule has opened up
just recently, so I should have more time to work on this action. I
expect to get an update onlist within a week or so. You can also swing
by #gentoo-java on irc.freenode.net, where the active folks hang out.

Greg: if you are using / helping out with the migration-overlay stuff,
please contact me off list or in #gentoo-java.

Regards,

Josh

Thanks for that URL.

I did manage to get Java 1.5 (sun jdk) + tomcat 5.5 running, via a
combination of gentoo-experimental and axoo overlays, plus a couple of
odd hacks (and an 'inject').

If you guys need help with anything specific, let me know...

cheers,
Mathew

PS. The java-config concept of symlinking /etc/java-config/system-vm is
cool - I think a similar technique could also be used for Flash vm's.

Although I would like to spend time on IRC, the reality is that Real
Life gets in the way... thus email tends to be the best way to get in
contact with me... :-/
In any case, if you guys have a specific task - let me know.

cheers,
Mathew
