Has anybody successfully loaded ALSA in an embedded environment? I
have been trying for several days to get it to work. Here is what I
have tried so far...

I started out with ALSA compiled into the kernel (2.6.17.6). After
doing a MAKEDEV to get all of the device pointers I was able to get
alsamixer to work, but anything that tries to play sound fails.

Now I have alsa compiled as a module and I cannot even get the modules to load.

All of this was done as root so it should not be a permission thing. I
am also using a VIA AC97 sound card (on a Mini-ITX board).

Any help at all would be nice.

Thanks

Chad

Did you unmute your wanted lines ?
Select your line in alsamixer and type m
There should be a "[mute]" flag, or not.

I could not get udev to function correctly. I am sure it has to do
with user error. I will look back into getting it to work.

I was not aware of mdev. Off to reasearch...

Thanks

I should has elaborated on "fails". It is not an issue of no sound, my
issue is that the audio device is either not there or unavailable when
it comes to playing.

It baffles me that alsamixer will work and alsaconf cannot find any
sound devices when it does a probe.

I did un-mute and turn up the volume by the way. :)
