Hi,
I am using a few gnap devices (shoutcast radios, vpn, routers, access points
and so on) and gnap fits all my extreme requirements. But all I use for gnap
are older PC or mini ITX motherboards (which are x86 PC also)
Because we recently we bought Jack PC terminals
(http://www.chippc.com/products/jackpc/jackpc.asp) based on AMD Alchemy
processor, I was wondering if that appliance would be good place to stuck
gnap inside, especialy because of its very tiny size and PoE feature.
So is it possible to prepare GNAP for Alchemy? anybody tried to do it before
or am I completely lost (because it is impossible)? Is there any other
appliance based on Alchemy more customizable and cheaper than terminal from
ChipPC?
Or - at last - is there any other better platform (other architecture) but
with the same features, performance and size? I would really want to give it
a try.
Any ideas?
Janusz.

One problem is that with GNAP you build on a workstation different from
the target system. When everything is x86, Catalyst is happy. When you
need some cross-compiling, I'm not sure it will degrade too well. It's
certainly possible to do it, but I would go for regular Embedded Gentoo
stage building and add GNAP post-configuration magic on it (?)

Probably someone on this list might know an x86-based platform with the
characteristics you require ?

Thierry,
thanks for reply. Well I would really prefer any x86 because it is much
easier to create an appliance on a workstation I work on daily, and this
is not what I do for living, I just let zombies do my hardest work :-)
But alchemy's size and features really blew me away and I started
wondering how to use that platform for my favorite apps too.

Well then: does somebody have experience with small x86 devices ready to
use for gnap? Not simple ones, I would like to have 1.0+ GHz CPU, GPU
1280x1024@16M, 802.1q VLANs, flash card slot, 128+ RAM, watchdog, usb
2.0, audio, PS/2 keyboard, dsub/dvi?
Janusz.
