Hi, I was in contact with Anant about with month's GMN. He sent me some
forwards and I spent about 4 hours getting some stuff rounded up. I got
quite a bit of it done and forwarded it back to him 5 days ago, but I now
realize he's away, so if there's any one else that could salvage this
month's newsletter, here's what I have:

Couple thing I wasn't sure about, as it was my first time:

* The song that was submitted needs to be preformatted (if you even want to
include the
lyrics in the body of the newsletter, that's up to you), but wrapping
in <pre></pre> labels it as code. Not sure how to work around that.

* I read the council meeting minutes, but couldn't really figure out when
the next meeting is scheduled for, probably better for you to ask a
council dev directly.

*I slightly reformatted and used a news item from
neddyseagoon's site which hasn't been released:
http://dev.gentoo.org/~neddyseagoon/docs/Foundation_News.xml<http://dev.gentoo.org/%7Eneddyseagoon/docs/Foundation_News.xml>.
I
emailed the trustees to check that this was OK but haven't gotten a
response. You'll probably want to check with Roy and make sure this
version is OK to ship.

*What should we do for tips? If you don't have
something lined up already, we could use one of
these?
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-715980.html
http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-79791.html

Really, it's my first time doing this and I wasn't in contact with anyone so
there's probably a lot of little stuff that could be ironed out... but if
anyone has the time, let's not let it go to waste! :)

<title>Trustees Meeting Summary</title>
<body>

<p>
The <uri link="http://www.gentoo.org/foundation/en/">Gentoo Trustees</uri> held
its monthly meeting on November 16, 2008. The agenda is available
<uri link="http://dev.gentoo.org/~neddyseagoon/docs/Trustee_Agenda_November_2008.xml">here</uri>.
</p>

<ul>
  <li>
    <b>Gentoo Foundation Bylaws Revised</b>
    <p>
    At this months meeting, the trustees unanimously passed a revision of the
    bylaws. The main change was to permit applications for membership from
    anyone at any time.
    </p>

    <p>
    <b>Section 4.3. Admission of Members</b> now reads:
    </p>

    <p>
    Full members are admitted by petitioning the trustees for membership,
    providing verifiable evidence of their contribution to Gentoo. Active
    Gentoo developers who are not members of the Foundation may apply for
    membership. Any developer applying for membership in the Foundation will
    become a member of the Foundation immediately after the next Trustee
    meeting following the application unless an absolute majority of the
    trustees (currently 3 out of 5) oppose membership for the developer at
    this meeting.
    </p>

    <p>
    Applicants who are not Gentoo develpers need to cite verifiable evidence
    of contributing to Gentoo or to the stated aims of the Gentoo Foundation
    Inc. Examples of contributing include but are not limited to, arch testing,
    bugzilla, Gentoo forums, working with existing developers. Contributions
    will be verified. The decision of the trustees is final.
    </p>

    <p>
    Monetary contributions will be discounted - Gentoo Foundation membership
    cannot be bought.
    </p>

    <p>
    Email applications to trustees@gentoo.org with a subject line "Foundation
    Membership Application" must include the following:
    </p>

    <ol>
      <li>Full name</li>
      <li>Nickname (optional)</li>
      <li>Valid email, gpg key fingerprint and key ID</li>
      <li>Birthday (optional) just (MM/DD)</li>
      <li>
        Provide a verifiable description of the work you have undertaken to
        further the aims of the Gentoo Foundation Inc. All contributions will
        be validated, help us to process your application quickly by including
        how we can validate it.
      </li>
    </ol>

  <p>
  Note: All the information required for developer applications is already
  available from ldap.

    <b>Official Certificate of Being an Active Developer</b>
    </p>

    <p>
    During the meeting, the council discussed progress on an official
    certificate of being an active Gentoo developer. Details and design are
    still up in the air, but the certificate will likely be signed by a trustee
    and would give active developers a legal confirmation of their work for
    Gentoo, for use on resumes, etc.
    </p>

    <p>
    The current draft of the certificate is

    any design ideas or comments, let us know in this month's GMN forum thread.

<title>Gentoo for Arne</title>
<body>

<p>
<uri link="http://draketo.de">Arne Babenhauserheide</uri> describes what
Gentoo is for him in a new song,
<uri link="http://draketo.de/english/songs/light/gentoo-for-me">(All this is)
Gentoo for me</uri>. Let's hope we get some audio soon!
</p>

<pre>
---
Refrain:
I build my kernel and I strip it down,
my programs only do what I need
the tree is at my very core
it's my whole world and it is my seed.
---
I came to Gentoo several years ago,
it's power was my joy and woe,
replaced OSX with a mighty shell,
and learned its ways and learned them well.
(well mostly, and learning at times is a hell)
--
I rebuilt only 2 times since that day,
for at first I didn't know my way,
the second one was a lovely bird,
but a new Computer brought the third.
(someday I want a Gentoo GNU/Hurd)
--
I learned each day and my knowledge grew,
from the wiki and forums it leaped and flew,
information in structure gave power in mind,
and the strongest is what the tutorials bind.
(but read them well, or trouble's what you find)
--
A new life came when I met the snake,
I'd been asleep, now I'm awake,
for portage might be quite complex,
but reading Python's sometimes close to sex.
(go deeper and deeper and the world seems to shift)
--
Somewhere between some seedlings appeared,
with stuff for special people geared,
sometimes dangerous, but mostly good,
and the tree had grown a little wood.
(but remember where the main trunk stood)
--
And now the tree has KDE 4,
since that appeared I like it evermore.
All that nifty stuff I missed from my Mac,
usability and beauty and the vision are back.
(and don't forget power, more than any I knew before)
--
Together all this is Gentoo for me,
but there sure is more I don't get or see,
and some parts for which I feel quite strong,
just didn't fit into this song.
(Gentoo's much too large to fit into any... )
