[gentoo-dev] SiS XFree drivers by Thomas Winischhofer.

  I have a few boxes at work that require these drivers[1] and I'm
  pondering on making them available through portage.

  there is a catch though.  building the drivers requires either a
  full XFree-tarball-pack and building, or we can pick the binary
  drivers and install the appropriate ones.  that _should_ work.
  lastly, we can include these SiS drivers when we build XFree,
  optionally via a "sis" USE flag.

  there is also an application, sisctrl, to fiddle with the drivers
  while X is running.  this is "configure; make; make install", but it
  requires the correct drivers to be installed.  then again, running
  sisctrl without the correct drivers does no harm.  :-)

  any thoughts on how to go about this would be highly appreciated.

If you take a look at the xfree ebuild (4.3.0-r3 at least), you'll see that we 
indeed obtain our sis driver from there:

http://www.winischhofer.net/sis/sis_drv_src_${SISDRV_VER}.tar.gz

Is that the same one?

Perhaps there's more to it than that. It doesn't look like we install the 
sisctrl thing.

  yup.  they seem to appear in 4.3.0 or so.  sorry, my fault.

  that much I can fix with a small ebuild.  I'll dump it to
  bugs.gentoo.org eventually.
