I'm fairly certain it has to do with the fact that cronbase-0.2.1-r3 is
marked as unstable. I was getting similar problems because of unstable
Tcl/Tk ebuilds. I guess you could downgrade to the latest stable version
of cronbase (0.2.1-r2), or (as I did for my Tcl/Tk ebuilds), move it to
a portage overlay and mark it as stable. Everyone on gentoo-user noted
that portage has issues with "~x86" packages on an "x86" system.
