Hi!
This is an excellent oppurtunity for non-hacking people that want to
contribute to Gentoo Linux. We need nice graphcis which we can use at
various places (in grub, gdm/kdm, backgrounds etc.)
Here are some examples on how the graphics will get used:
grub (boot-loader):
Current grub-image: http://cvs.gentoo.org/images/boot3.png
In action (taken with dig. cam):
http://micke.hallendal.net/gentoo_splash.jpg
gdm:
http://micke.hallendal.net/images/gdm_gentoo/gdm_gentoo1.png
here we have two different images, the background and the logo.
backgrounds:
in various sizes (preferable well-scaling images).
Example at: http://micke.hallendal.net/desktop.png
So, please start up gimp or whichever is your favorite drawing program
and start making great looking gentoo graphics.
Regards,
Mikael Hallendal

Sounds like a good time to have a graphics contest. Put an
announcement up on www.gentoo.org, and maybe try to recruit
some guys from #blender3d or #gimp. I'm still ascending the
blender learning curve (not to mention the linux learning curve!)
but I'll look and see where I can lend a hand.
There is a KDE themes tutorial on dW:
http://www-105.ibm.com/developerworks/education.nsf/linux-onlinecourse-bytitle/B390A002F1F75BD186256A29005F94ED?Open&l=kde3,t=gr,p=KDE-Tutorial
I wouldn't mind administrating and organizing a contest, but it
would have to wait until September 4th - I will be at Linuxworld!
Cheers,
Sherman Boyd

The images are too good for a start. a mere suggestion, if u could include the gentoo logo (the spaceship) in all the above images the images would look more attractive and more beautiful.
i'll try to make a few and post the links some time next week. shoul get some time to make the images this week end.
Best Regards,
pm

I'm not sure if this has been resolved or not, but I think the problem lies
with the isolinux boot process, I recently tried this on a Dec Prioris dual
pentium machine, and the system hangs just as the boot is starting.
I will most likely drag the machine from work to home, where I have no
firewall to deal with, and try to bootstrap Rc6. I have been able to get the
boot disk with rescue image to start off, but I cannot mount the iso file
system so the built image is unusable. Is this being addressed in Rc6 ?? If
you need a test person I volenteer.

I think that our bootcd has some i686 code on it. Sorry about that. As soon
as the rc6 build image is set and some portage upgrades are made, I'll be
tackling a new bootcd that will be based on an i486 build image, totally
eliminating this problem.

I'll post here when we have a rc6 CD available for testing. For bootstrapping
rc6, use the new -r3 build image and follow the included README.
