Somehow, I don't have the portage FAQ in my=20 bookmarks, where I could refer to it answering questions, etc (as well as= =20 for my own use). Since due to the mix of USE flags, etc, stuff like kdelibs appears in my=20 @system's deps, that FAQ entry does help answer the question you so well=20 intuited that I was alluding to. =3D:^) Meanwhile, now that I've envisioned the "emerging" app as described=20 thanks to the stimulus provided by this thread, perhaps I'll implement at= =20 least parts of it in my own customized portage front-end scripts. I=20 already have quite a collection accumulated as I expect many gentoo users= =20 do after a few years, but this would certainly be one of my more=20 ambitious to date.
