That's a good point, but it would be much like links, with the X (and=20 several others, jpeg, png, tiff, etc) USE flags. Many people use it=20 primarily or exclusively as a console browser and don't want it broken if= =20 those libraries are, despite the fact that they use X (and the image=20 libraries) by default, and thus have those USE flags enabled by default. IOW. that's what package.use is for (with portage, anyway, no idea what=20 the alternative PMs use, but portage is the default, anyway). There are= =20 packages where one doesn't want the global flags enabled, and there are=20 mechanisms in place for just that USE (heh!) case.
