any reason we dont have openal and xine has global USE ?
both are semi-common multimedia libraries ...

As well, xine can be used in place of mplayer for the latest
media-video/kmplayer.
Xine actually seems to work better than mplayer, here, on AMD64, likely
because many of the codecs mplayer uses are 32-bit only, while for
whatever reason, xine "just works".
That reminds me, I should file a bug on kmplayer, if one hasn't already
been filed, so the dependency on mplayer can be removed. I end up
injecting it at each upgrade, here, because as I said, xine is now and
option, and "just works", where mplayer was forever blank screening or
mute audioing me, due to missing codecs.
