OK, fair enough. I still don't think it makes much difference in terms of the viability of moving certain directories (for the admin, not the distro) given the current setup. Nonetheless, I'll just wait til your busybox applet is the officially-supported method of split /usr without an initramfs ;) (It'll mean openrc by default gets a faster bootup, which matters to some people.)
