(This is late because I was traveling and dev-zero is/was on devaway.)

This is your friendly reminder! Same bat time (typically the 2nd & 4th
Thursdays at 2000 UTC / 1600 EST), same bat channel (#gentoo-council @
irc.freenode.net) !

If you have something you'd wish for us to chat about, maybe even vote
on, let us know! Simply reply to this e-mail for the whole Gentoo dev
list to see.

Attached is the preliminary meeting agenda.

Define EAPI development/deployment cycles
-----------------------------------------

Last meeting several members expressed support for Ciaran McCreesh's
suggestions[1]. The discussion got sidetracked however and no consensus was
    reached.

Goal: Decide on and approve a set of development and deployment guidelines
    for future EAPIs.

EAPI 3 Progress
---------------
zmedico will provide an update on the progress of the implementation in portage.
If Brian Harring(ferringb) is present, he will give an update on the progress of
    the implementation in pkgcore.

Discuss Past Year
-----------------
Since this is the last meeting of the outgoing some asked for a discussion
of the last year's accomplishments and obstacles for the next council to be
aware of. In order for this to be productive the channel may have to be
    moderated.

I think we agreed that we would send comments about the agenda before
the meeting. The agenda presented seems fine to me. I don't see a need
for doing any major votes in the last meeting.

Petteri

ACKing the agenda, too.

I didn't started to get the "deployment part" of the eapi-development
and deployment discussion alive, mainly because Ciaranm has made a true
point (we do need testing, of course) and i'm not really sure how to
find a balanced way of clean eapi-deployment while also having extensive
testing in-tree. Plus it seems i'm the only one interested in that
discussion.

I think we should try the outlined procedure for the next EAPI, with
one exception:

| [...] give them all an arbitrary codename that in no way describes
| the feature

To keep it simple we should choose names that roughly describe what
the features are about.

| (so that certain people can't vote and discuss things based upon
| what they think the feature is without bothering to find out if it's
| anything to do with what they assume).

Of course that's not desirable. But can you give a concrete example
where such a thing happened?

Ulrich

Yup. Some of leio's huge drawn out objections to EAPI 3 that wasted
huge amounts of my time were based upon him only having read the short
name we chose for things.

Thanks for your very detailed concrete examples where such a thing
happened.
And I'm sorry to have wasted your precious time by doing the opposite of
what you claim here and still objecting to things that don't make sense.

Now lets get back to useful things, like giving "code names" that make
sense and don't need to be looked up with what is actually meant when
they are being referred to in short names.

Agenda looks fine, thanks Thomas for taking it over but I simply didn't
have time to do it before I left for my holidays.

Cheers,
Tiziano

I acknowledge that agenda, or something.

ACK on the agenda items. Though I'm really curious to see what these
questions are going to be for the past year of council members. Since I
believe there's only 3 council members remaining from the original election
and 2 of those council members were members of the previous council as well.
The only take away we have is that being a council member burns you out.
